Good fried chicken does not need a lot of batter. This is very good fried chicken. Just make sure to have plenty of time on hand when you go for lunch (reason for only 3 stars).

I passed by this place for a few months and finally stopped in...I had no issues with service but the food was bland I mean the chicken is only flour..no seasoning in it at all..then there's the green beans that have been opened out of a can and poured into your container... Now I was raised on canned vegetables you can make green beans better even if they do come out of a can... throw you some bacon bits & part of an onion some garlic salt butter BAM! you have country style green beans in less than 30 minutes...no not here u just get them right out of the can...the mashed potatoes tasted like they came out of a box so I can get those out of any chicken chain restaurant and at that even chain restaurants season their green beans...won't be back...

I didn't think anyone could screw up fried chicken, but I was wrong. I also ordered homemade potato chips which were very greasy and slimy and only half cooked. I thought for sure I was going to end up in the hospital. It was also very expensive after using a coupon I still spent $25 on a 10 piece meal with two large sides that were actually small sides.

I had the best fried cod I've ever tasted. So the next time I ordered delivery, I sprung for the same thing. The second delivery was finger-sized pieces of some kind of fish that was overcooked and dry and tasteless. I was indignant and called back, thinking they gave me the wrong order. I was told, "Oh, well, they delivered small pieces today." No apology. No refund. No hope that the next time it will be any different. Hey, it's a crap shoot with this place and I won't spend my money here again.

Great chicken not so great atmosphere. My husband and I went to dinner here this evening. The place is the epitome of a hole in the wall, but we did not mind that at all. We are always on the lookout for those little unknown places with great food. We sat down on the bar side. There were only three other people in the place. One sitting at the bar, talking very loudly to someone he was trying to convince to enter into some kind of financial 'deal' with him. Two others were there to enjoy dinner and some darts. My husband and I ordered the same thing. hot & spicy fried chicken with mashed potatoes and a roll. The chicken took 20 minutes to get to us. I did not consider that a bad wait time, considering they advertise that they make the chicken fresh when you order it. The chicken was very juicy and very spicy. Although, I did not find it too spicy. The mashed potatoes and gravy were nothing to write home about and the roll was not worth eating. Just as we were starting to eat, we heard music, louder than a juke box. I turned around to see two men who had set up a keyboard and a sound system. They were playing the most obnoxious music I have ever heard during dinner. In truth, the music did not offend me. But I found it completely inappropriate for dinner music. So many lurid body parts and actions being sung about while I gnawed on my chicken leg. We decided to eat as fast as we could and get the heck out of there. We heard three songs. All worse than the one before. We were eating between 6 & 7 in the evening. I find it a little intrusive to have very loud music playing while I eat my food, that early in the evening. Later in the evening, I would understand, but not at 6 pm. My husband and I really liked the chicken, and we will probably try to go back. I just hope the music they play isn't as crude as what we heard tonight.

Fantastic fried chicken and fish! Sweetie Pie's and Porter's have nothing on this place! Let me back up....We drove past the Kluckin Chicken numerous times in the past and always wanted to check it out. After an exhausting day at the Aquaport in Maryland Heights we stopped by for some fried goodness. Everything was freshly cooked to order. The prices were reasonable (2 piece mixed part chicken was only $3 something and that includes a side and a roll. $1.5 more if you want all white meat). I had the hot n spicy type, which wasn't very spicy but it was very tasty. My companion had the weekend buffet: for $8.99 you get all you can eat chicken, fish, country fried steak, and all the sides (green beans + bacon bits, meatball + spaghetti (he didn't like it too much) + corn + mashed potatoes). It was a pretty good deal if you are starving! A couple of things to note before you come: - There is NO atmosphere. It's a old place with wood panels, a couple of TVs, some gaming machines; it looks stingy and you could call the bathroom area scary because it's next to a industrial-sized washing basin. - The wait is LONG! If you want fast food, this is not the place. I know fried chicken = fast food to most people, but not here. They appeared to be grossly understaffed (looks like a family restaurant) with just one young guy in the kitchen cooking and a girl taking orders/serving. Of course, there is no wait for the buffet. There were also a ton of orders for pickups. During the hour we were eating here, they received at least 5 phone calls for delivery/pickups. Looks like most people order that way to avoid the long wait. However, if you can look past these two things, you will be rewarded with great home-style fried deliciousness! We will certainly return in the future.

I love homemade fried chicken and it is rare to find a place that fries it like home (not my home, I cannot cook). I love their fried chicken with a preference for their whole wings and livers. However, I am in love with their catfish nuggets. They are awesome. The sides are interesting. Those fries are seasoned and I prefer a really good, plain fry, I eat them but am not a huge fan. The mashed potatoes are the worse and taste like powdered potatoes. Urgh. I think their cole slaw is very good. I have my food delivered and have not had the experience of visiting. Every delivery person has been absolutely wonderful. I also like their iced tea because they brew it and it is unsweetened. Knowing that they are in a great place with few alternatives leads to me wish they offered more than a lunch special and some other ways to purchase their food. I find that it is either too much food or too little.

If you have to eat human hair, at least it is deep fried... Yup. That's what happened. We were there for the buffet on a Sunday. The service was slow, but we were in no hurry so didn't mind so much. We played pool and had a beer while we waited. The buffet tasted pretty good and soon we were enjoying deep fried everything. Until my husband found a very long hair deep fried into the piece of chicken on his plate. He happened to have split the piece with my stepdaughter- who discovered that he also split the hair with her when she looked at her plate. I'm all for forgiving mistakes like this, so I mentioned this to the waitress when I went to the counter to pay the bill. She asked me if it was her hair. Weird. I said I didn't know other than it was long- and she did have long hair. She giggled and replied it was probably hers and added a half hearted "sorry" to finish her reaction. Then proceeded to close out the bill. There was no effort to offer a discount or coupon for future visit or any true concern. Just a laugh like that happens occasionally. Ha ha. Great fun. Deep fried hair. Hee hee. I think I'll pass on this place. I'm pretty sure I can find good fried chicken where they have a sprinkle of concern for hygiene.

When I walked in I thought "no, just turn around." An older woman was behind the bar and an obvious friend of hers having a beer on the customer side. Both texting feverishly and angrily discussing the lack of response from whoever they were texting. Weird. The woman asked if I was picking up a to go order and I replied "No, I would like to place a carry out order." She said ok. She did not hand me a menu nor did she ask me what I wanted. I had to help myself to the greasy menus between condiments at the bar. I eventually asked her if I place my order with her, she stopped texting to say "yeah." So she takes my order and tells me it will be 20 mins, totally normal for cooked to order fried chicken. I then went to my car to grab my cell phone to pass the time. I sat there listening to cursing, ridiculous personal conversations and bickering among staff for 30 mins. My order had sat in the window for at least 10 minutes. I was getting mad and felt very uncomfortable. My family called to see where I was so I got up from chair I was waiting in at the bar and walked away from the shot slamming, cursing mix a workers and regulars that had filed in. That's when she finally realized I was there and still needed my order. This was aggravating. I expect basic customer service and this was not even that. The chicken, it was ok, obviously I was concerned it would be cold but it was hot. The rolls were OK, they reminded me of the OLD rolls kfc had back in the 70s! Mashed potatoes and gravy ok. Gravy may not be homemade. I will never go back. I will listen to my gut next time.

I originally gave Kluckin Chicken a great review. However, they've gone down hill since they first opened. Went to pick up our dinner at Kluckin Chicken on Dorsett and the kid (looked like a stoner to us) was having trouble figuring out the total. He tried to do it manually and got stuck. Despite having two calculators on the counter he tried to use their cash register and came up with a total that was significantly higher than I thought it should be. I did a quick mental calculation and knew we were being over charged. He went through the process with the register twice, coming up with the same amount which I politely protested. I finally asked him for a piece of paper and I added it all up and showed him he was off by $5. He wanted $18 for a $13 order and when I questioned it he said "well, with tax and all..." Either he didn't know how to add, was high or tired, or was trying to score some easy cash from us - whatever the reason, after 10 minutes of his failed attempts to come up with the right total, we finally got him to charge us the correct amount. We will not be returning to Kluckin Chicken any time soon. Besides everything else, the place has a fairly high sleeze factor going on now. The counter was full of junk and papers, and they had several words on the hand written dry erase board misspelled. It's a shame, it was a nice place when they opened.

Can get better chicken at KFC or Popeyes. This place sucks. Dirty and bland. I gave one star because I had to. I would rather give the place the middle finger.

This place sucks. It's dirty and the service is horrible. I ordered chicken strips and fries to go and they sent me out with chicken wings. I also had to wait forever even though I called the order in. They replaced my food and got it wrong again. The food on top of it was horrible. Don't go there if your looking for a good meal and service.

The fried chicken here is pretty good. It's not as greasy as some of the fried chickens you bite into and oil is dripping out everywhere. The best things about this place are pretty much: fried chicken is above average the fried catfish nuggets are amazing their hotsauce that they have is really really good their fries / sides are pretty good too So if you were to come here, I would definitely try their fried catfish nuggets, and their hotsauce. Those are the 2 main things that stand out to me

Meh. This place holds true to the theory that if you bought a coupon from a deal site (Morgan's Deals), it's probably not awesome. I was expecting soul food, but got mediocre fried bar food. I guess I should have tried their namesake, but I opted for the shrimp plate instead. Shrimp was large, Panko-crusted (not bad), fries were "well done" (darker than I prefer and hard), and slaw wasn't overly mayonaised like some can be but still pretty standard fare. Cheesy Cauliflower didn't have any hint of cheesiness, but still OK. Broccoli Bites are SUPER cheesy with fake bacon bits....the item I enjoyed most from this place. Accompanying ranch dressing for the appys was gross bottled stuff. I got carry-out, but inside is kind of like Hot Shots Lite - beer promotional decorations littering the walls and ceilings, obligatory gambling and gaming machines, and large flat screens tuned to ESPN. Could be a great meeting spot for blue collar guys for lunch. Was disappointed to see they haven't updated their menu on Facebook, so prices were higher than I expected (doubled in some cases!), and they were out of the carrot cake they promote all over the restaurant. Will remember to grab a menu next time and take pics for Yelpers in the future. Can't say much bad about this place...but can't say much is great, either. Wouldn't go out of my way to go back, but it's close to work and I have another coupon, so will follow the Yelp reviews and try the fish or chicken next time since most seem to have enjoyed that. To be continued....

Stopped by here around 6 PM one evening after work. I had been on a pizza-eating binge lately, but I needed to switch it up. I didn't call in my order and opted to just place it when I got there for carry-out. I kind of wish I would've called ahead, though, as it took about 15 minutes to make my order. Also, the building smelled like the entire thing had been dipped into a deep-fryer, so waiting inside wasn't much more pleasant than sitting in my 110-degree car/deathtrap. Ordering was simple enough and the little interaction I had with the staff was simply okay. 15 minutes and about $8.50 later I got my food, which consisted of 5 chicken strips and a small fry. The chicken was hot and fresh (as evidenced by the hot, greasy shine of its batter), but didn't have much flavor and was noticeably tough. The chicken looked awesome, but it really could/SHOULD have been a lot more tender and the batter could have used some seasoning. The honey mustard was at least decent and helped aid the flavor. I ended up enjoying the fries more, actually, which were lightly seasoned, hot and perfectly crispy. For the price I suppose it's okay. I would never eat in, but would maybe consider coming back to try their fish (for which they have a lot of choices). All in all it's just fast food and I would rather have Lee's when they actually make it fresh as I believe Lee's has the best fast-food fried chicken. I certainly wouldn't recommend coming here if it's out of your way but, if you live close or work nearby, perhaps call in an order and pick some up.

Ordered lunch from there today and the chicken would have been better had they changed the oil in the fryer. Two pieces in two orders were undercooked and when I called the resturant to advise them of this the mgr/owner unsure who he is argued that I should have ordered the chicken "well done". He did offer to compensate us with two thighs in the future but I doubt myself or anyone in my office will be back!!!

Some of best fried chicken in St. Louis. Not a lot of atmosphere but chicken is excellent and is fresh and made to order. Excellent fries also. Service is excellent. Prices are good. Drinks are a bargain. Have eaten here about 12 times and have never been disappointed. You can watch large screen TV while waiting while food is prepared.

the chicken tastes like it was fried in fish grease. if that appeals to you, then this is the place for you, if not and you're like me you probably shouldn't give kluckin chicken your business. the service was great though.
